Internet T1′s are still Invaluable

In this world of Ethernet and Fiber, why do Internet T1’s still matter? Internet T1’s are an Internet service supplying 1.54Mbps of dedicated service. Until recently, Internet T1’s had been the industry standard for Internet Services. Internet T1’s are successful due to the fact that they can be installed almost anywhere and are an extremely reliable connection. If you are in a rural area, or an industrial area that has not had Ethernet built yet, and a need for a quality Internet service then an Internet T1 will be perfect for you.

What comes to mind when one thinks of an Internet T1 is reliability. It has been the industry standard for quite sometime, and will have a role in the ever changing Ethernet and Fiber markets. While undoubtedly it appears Ethernet and Fiber services will one day replace T1 services, carrier networks simply cannot reach every customer. Many customers have multiple locations for their business, and more times than not cannot be reached by Fiber or Ethernet. Fiber is reliant upon the customer being directly on their network. Building out to single customer locations is expensive and are not often completed, leaving many customers without services. Ethernet is reliant upon distance from the carriers Central Office. This creates issues, as we need to put our businesses where they can succeed, not where the carriers are located.

Nationwide availability, quality, and symmetrical bandwidth make the Internet T1 an important player. Customers are using a blend of services on the MPLS networks. They allow the rural locations a customer may have to be reached. If we were to move to a dedicated Ethernet solution across the board, many customers would still be unable to be reached. Carriers continue to grow their Ethernet networks. Eventually they may be able to reach every customer, but the Internet T1 is still going to be an important player in bridging this gap.
